Jonas Mekas, 1981.


Jonas Mekas – filmmaker, film critic, archivist, poet, lecturer and curator (and our current cover star!!) is one of the leading figures of American avant-garde film and video. Jonas Mekas visited Screening Room in October 1981 to discuss the film preservation efforts of Anthology Film Archives and show and discuss his own work as well as films by other filmmakers, including Bruce Bailie, Maya Deren, and Joseph Cornell.

    Anyone who has been following ANPQ for the last four years may point out that this would be our first themed issue, and that person would be correct. Well, sort of because we've never declared an issue "themed" before.

ANPQuarterly is an arts magazine published by RVCA that focuses on a broader sense of art and community. The idea behind this endeavor is to make a magazine that will educate and inform openly and without the social or financial restrictions that plague many publications today. Our goal is not to focus on current events or “who’s hot” but rather to bring forward people and phenomena that deserve acknowledgment and coverage regardless of their place in time.
