documentation miami 12/10/06
okay, so the party in miami was last week and still... no photos. I mean, aaron has already shown us a week in tokyo... but what was I doing this whole time with the miami photos? Well, to be honest, I was sort of trying to figure out what to do with them. I mean, party photo blog coverage, in my mind, is pretty much owned by two schools: Patric O'Dell's Epicly Laterd and, uhm, you know, cobrasnake. Both camps have defined very clear, seperate aesthetics and, to be honest, until now I have felt like the world just doesn't need another picture of a party on a blog... but that's kind of fucked because, I mean, we threw a party, it was our first party, there will be more and even that aside it ruled, and I need to show you pictures from it.
So, at this point I have come up with two strategies, and I present them below: "ambient documentaion" and "hard documentaion"
... oh, and quick recap of what you are looking at:aNYthing and ANPQuarterly PRESENT:

report: Art Basel Miami is really really definatively bannannas. Every person from the entirety of the international artworld goes there and parties for a week. for really good documentation please go to Kathy's Blog or this artforum blog which I haven't read, but I heard is kind of haterish, but the whole thing is just this big social thing and those things always have to have some haterish aspects, right? The very obvius comparison is mtv springbreak but for art people, so discussions of debauchery and name calling and fucking make sense. Fully.
Matt from Fannypack lined up the venue for our party, it ruled. He rules and is mega pro and sweet. A-Ron and Simon from aNYthing showed up and told me that Bruce LaBruce's party had been cancelled because the police were player hating on Avenue D durring their soundcheck, and that Avenue D would be playing too, which is rad as they are kind of the definative art party debauch band. Jesse from PaperRad began the night with one of the best dj sets in the history of earth as DJ Jazzy Jexxx, then I played (I do the thing called BARR, its me... sorry to dissapoint anyone)... the crowd in the room was really thick and A-Ron helped me clear a space to play. Dan Colen and A-Ron cheerleaded soo sweetly from behind, and I told the same story about Dan that I tell every time I play and he is there and he always gets embarrased but never remembers that I have told it and embarrased him before. I didn't get any pictures of my set, for obvious reasons, but I did play my single
single at the beggining and end of the set which I think was a mistake. But it was fun. For pretty intense documentation of my set please and kind of everything else I missed, please check the aNYthing GLOB HERE and HERE. Their coverage of the whole thing is really great in general. So, getting back to events, the crowd was really completely at capacity at this point and they weren't letting anyone else in, so I am fully sorry to anyone that was stuck outside at all durring the show/party et al... Then Ben Jones from Paper Rad played as DR DOO, delivering, by far, thee best solo drumset with video projection animation accompaniment set ever in the history of the world. Agathe Snow had another special guest, Mr Soy Bomb himself, Michael Portnoy, who gave a harrowing ballad damaged performance. Dash didn't bring his records, Chris Johanson's flight got messed up, and Christopher Garret had worked all day and was wrecked from uninstalling art, DJ Free Simon killed it for the next four hours solo as he is prone to do... insanity core. He killed it. I think he likes it better that way, solo set. Avenue D were asking for the DVD/projector set up and two mics, but by the time they played everything had dissapeared except for one mic and a set of headphones, so they went fully punk, fully damage and ruled. Insanity core again. The party ended at 4. Thank you so much to everyone who was involved and came and partied and ripped it up and said that it was the most fun and was sweet.
YESS!

A-Ron and Myself (note/question to A L-W, is this the scar that started the conversation? hmmm... I think there is some level of scar and some level of pigment/something?)

Dr Doo. Fully hard to photograph because it is so amazing? Ben is wearing the hat. Chaos. And epic drums. And Video. And sound. And an explanation of 90's alternarock.

Daniel Joseph told me that Kunle handled a heckler.
thanks Kunle! ...I would really really not want to be
handled by Kunle... heckling is never okay.

Naomi Fisher and Jim Drain live in miami are are
fully giving the finger to me and not Michael Portnoy,
at left, in this photo. Miami love hands! and the
dramatic drama of the performance of Michael Portnoy
and I fully saw the woman on the far right with the
super bleached hair in a car about six hours before.
serious.

straight from Mexico City DF, team Proyectos Monclova. We miss you!

and Jerry Hsu may be the most blogged about man (see Aaron's last post) but Dash Snow is maybe the most talked about... and I am only showing this photo of him and Spencer Sweeney to make this point. When I first met Spencer about 6 years ago I was sort of intimidated by his eyebrows. He seemed to have the eyebrows of an infinitely older and wiser and more clever scheme-er... like, what was he planning? Could I ever plan something so intense as whatever he probably seemed to be cooking up at any given moment?... fast forward to now... Dash's eyebrows are fully so intense that I forgot Spencer even had eyebrows... if you showed me this picture quickly and then took it away and asked me to describe Spencer (on the right), I would have said that he had his eyebrows singed off or something... or covered them with a low baseball cap because he wanted to give Dash full eyebrow shine. A tender moment, a changing of the eyebrow garde!

and I swear I don't always look this ridiculous when I point with both hands casually towards the ground, but if you are looking for copies of the last ANPQ in Miami, we dropped some off here, at Arrive on 16th St. YESS (thank you Andrea)
