Genius is in the Mistakes

Yesterday, after a series of airport mix-ups, delayed planes and general headaches I found myself on an unexpected but furtuitous nine-hour layover in the city of Lisbon, Portugal.

As you can see in these photos there is some amazing 1950's-1960's architecture there. On the bus ride into town the road was seriously like a canyon of structures like this! Too many to shoot, but this should give you an idea of how it felt. Intense.

When you get to the center of the city, the modernism fades and you are smack in the middle of an antique village on the sea. The entire town is built on hills with tiny alleys leading to an ever complicating labrynth of shops and houses. The hand-painted signs were truly inspiring. I sat and drank coffee and watched people for hours.

So many buildings there had tile facades like this one below. Every corner was more beautiful than the last...so happy life didn't go according to my plan...it's a good lesson.
